The Police in Benue State have rescued a businessman, Michael Okonkwo, from the den of kidnappers at Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.

 Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Moses Joel Yamu, said yesterday that the rescued businessman regained his freedom through police intervention after spending 13-days in his captors’ detention.

Yamu explained that the victim was abducted by some armed men who accosted him at Haaga village in Kastina-Ala area while on his way to purchase Madrid wood for his business.

 He said Okonkwo was successfully rescued at 3:00am on Monday after policemen engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle, adding that some of the suspects escaped with bullet wounds.

 The police spokesman said the command was yet to make any arrest in connection with the kidnap but were trailing the escapees. He urged members of the public to provide useful information that could lead to their arrest.
