The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested one Bashiru Bala Zuru, a meat seller and his accomplice, Nawali Bala, for allegedly attempting to sell contaminated cow meat in Kwara.
The incident happened in Patigi Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s PRO, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, in a statement on Sunday said, “Our men arrested the suspects based on a tipoff on Saturday with the unfit cow meat neatly stocked in a sack while being transported to the market.
“One of the suspects, Nawali, a native of Okoloke in Kogi State, confessed during interrogation that the cow meat was given to them by Dantani Jayewu (at large) who also lives in Okoloke, Kogi State.”
There have been growing calls in the state by consumers for the authorities to intensify efforts to sanitise the industry.
The NSCDC command spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court.
