A butcher, Awwalu Musa, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl at Unguwar Abattoir in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of Abattoir, Usman Yakubu, said the incident occurred on Monday around 11:23 a.m.

He explained that the butcher lured the girl into a makeshift wooden house when she went to collect money he owed her for bananas he had bought on credit.

According to Yakubu, the suspect persuaded the girl to meet him at his apartment, where he allegedly defiled her.

Some residents who saw the girl entering the man’s apartment became suspicious and approached the room, only to find the suspect half-naked.

“The girl usually brings bananas to sell to the butchers at the abattoir. On Monday, the suspect bought some and asked her to return later for the money. When she did, he asked her to meet him at his apartment behind the abattoir. He lured her inside and forcefully defiled her. Her screams attracted some residents who rushed over and found the man half-naked,” Yakubu said.

He added that local vigilantes were immediately alerted and arrived to arrest the suspect. The girl’s parents, who also live nearby, took her to a clinic where medical personnel confirmed that she had been penetrated.

Yakubu said her parents have reported the case to the local police division.

One of the vigilantes, Shuaibu Ibrahim, also confirmed the incident and noted that the suspect has been handed over to the police.

He recalled that the same suspect was arrested late last year for defiling another hawker after buying an orange on credit.

He said, “This same man was arrested late last year when he lured a girl selling oranges to his friend’s house and defiled her. I believe this time, the law must take its course.”

The police confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is still under investigation.
