Butcher arraigned over alleged N2.3 fraud in Ibadan

A 40-year-old butcher, Basiru Gboyega, has appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on charges of allegedly defrauding a cattle dealer of N2.3 million.

Gboyega was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and pleaded not guilty. 

The prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on December 22, 2024, at Akinyele Kara Market, Ibadan.

Akinloye stated that Gboyega collected five cows, valued at N2,380,000, from a cattle dealer named Jamare Tijani. He allegedly took the cows under the pretense of selling them and returning the proceeds but failed to do so. The offenses are in violation of Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted Gboyega bail in the amount of N750,000 with two sureties. She stipulated that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case has been adjourned until October 29 for hearing.
