The Sarkin Bwari, Alhaji Muhammad Auwal Ijakoro, on Sunday, crowned the overall winner of the National Quranic Recitation Competition held in the nation’s capital.
The monarch represented the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at the event organised by the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS).
The overall winner, Aliyu Abdurrahman, from Kaduna State, took first place in the category of 60 Hizb memorisation and interpretation. The competition featured contestants across various categories from 25 states. For his achievement, Abdurrahman was awarded a car, cash, among other gifts.
The Secretary of the JIBWIS National Quranic Recitation Competition, Alhafiz Abdulmumin Aliyu, announced other category winners who included Abdullahi Salisu Yahaya and Idris Saminu Ash’hab, both from Kano State; Ibrahim Abdullahi Nur from Yobe State; and Mahmood Muhammad from Sokoto State. Each was awarded a car and cash prizes.
Speaking at the occasion, the National Chairman of the JIBWIS Council of Ulama, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, expressed gratitude to the various benefactors who supported the event.
Among the major donors was Vice President Kashim Shettima, who donated two cars, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, who donated N40m.
Two members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi (Kano) and Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara (Borno), donated N50m each.
Further pledges and donations were announced by the Chairman of the Working and Financial Committee for the exercise, Hon. Ahmad Idris Wase. Wase himself donated N10m, matching a N10m donation from the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.
