The Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku Musa, has promised to pay the outstanding 30 months’ peculiar allowance owed to workers before his administration marks its first 100 days in office.

Musa made the promise during a meeting with workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the council secretariat’s conference hall.

To improve performance and reward excellence, the chairman also announced plans to introduce a staff recognition and reward scheme to celebrate outstanding employees annually.

He said exceptional workers would receive attractive incentives, including cash rewards, vehicles and houses, to encourage excellence and healthy competition within the service.

The chairman also pledged to prioritise the capacity and expertise of the council’s workforce by minimising the engagement of external consultants.

According to him, consultants would only be engaged in highly specialised areas where the required expertise is unavailable within the council.

He said workers’ welfare, safety and professional development remained top priorities of his administration, while urging employees to shun rumour-mongering and other unproductive activities capable of undermining the council’s progress.

Musa also assured the newly appointed Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) that they had been assigned clearly defined responsibilities aimed at supporting government operations and enhancing efficient service delivery.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Bwari Area Council branch of NULGE, Emmanuel Ishaku, described the meeting as historic and pledged the union’s support for the administration to promote industrial harmony between the council and its workforce.

He also commended the council chairman for clearing workers’ outstanding arrears amounting to more than ₦148.8 million within three weeks of assuming office.
