By-election: Adamawa PDP begins sale of forms

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, A.T. Shehu, a lawyer, has expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness and popularity ahead of the forthcoming Ganye state constituency by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Speaking on Friday in Yola, Shehu said the party had received all materials needed for the primaries and had commenced the sale of nomination forms to aspirants.

Reaffirming the PDP’s dominance in the state, he declared: “Adamawa is a PDP state. From day one till now, the masses have continued to believe in our leadership on account of the party’s progressive path.”

Shehu acknowledged internal disagreements within the party but dismissed them as “normal political rancour,” insisting that the so-called aggrieved faction has no real footing.

On whether the recent defection of a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar from the PDP would affect the party’s chances, Shehu insisted that the PDP remained unshaken.

“The masses of Adamawa are fully with the PDP. No party has ever truly held 100 per cent control of this state. Setbacks do not define who we are,” he said.

The Ganye by-election was necessitated by the death of Abdulmalik Jauro Musa, a deputy minority whip of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, who died on May 24, 2024. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the poll for August 16, 2025 to fill the vacant seat.
