The just-concluded by-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states of the federation have been described as an important test of the Coalition (N-ADC) party’s faith, acceptability, and popularity ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, Special Adviser on Public Communication to Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, stated this in a statement, noting that the polls offered insights into the coalition’s performance without the direct involvement of Abejide, who is the national leader of the party.

Abejide, a two-term federal lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, is also the highest-ranking member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He has previously called for the adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that such a move could strengthen the party’s structure and visibility in preparation for fielding a presidential candidate in 2031.

According to the statement, the outcome of the by-elections, which attracted the attention of political analysts, party loyalists, and voters, highlighted the coalition’s current capacity and areas requiring greater mobilization.

“The coalition will need to demonstrate its ability to mobilize support and produce compelling messages in support of President Bola’s re-election, as this will enhance the party’s chances in 2031,” Bashiru added.
