Farmers in the hinterlands of Cross River State have received agricultural inputs from a Japanese agricultural support group, the Sasakawa Africa Association.

The trainings and supports are to bolster their farm yields and enable them to produce in larger quantities so that they can become agro allied entrepreneurs.

The Sasakawa experts said their support to the famers was in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and some development partners.

The support, they said, was aimed at ensuring that they do not suffer losses in their farming enterprise but maximise their productivity.

Over 5,500 farmers across 12 local government areas in the state were trained on improved cassava, maize, as well as livestock farming.

During their recent visit to demonstration farms in some local government areas, Prof Sani Miko, the country director, said the partnership between the organisation and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture was aimed at eradicating hunger in Africa and making agro-business a success in the country by transforming smallholder farmers into agric-entrepreneurs.
