Chairman of LP in the state, Austin Ibok, alleged that Governor Liyel Imoke was in strong connivance with the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Sylvester Ezeani, to doctor the results in favour of Chief Gershom Bassey of the PDP.
LP members carried placards with inscriptions such as “2015 elections should be cancelled”, “We must resist Liyel Imoke’s doctoring of results”, “INEC is extension of PDP” among others.
The party insisted that the results as submitted by INEC presiding officers in both northern, central and southern senatorial districts which were in favour of their candidates must stand.
Similarly, chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Usani Uguru Usani, has called for outright cancellation of the results, also alleging mass falsification and snatching of ballot boxes.
Usani said that men in police and army uniforms helped government officials to cart away original results of the National Assembly elections welding arms and beating up agents of opposition parties.
According to Usani, results of 14 out of 18 LGAs were heavily doctored in appalling circumstances. He said that the strong showing of APC in the state completely rattled the ruling PDP so that they became frantic and used state machinery to enforce illegal victory.
Whereas Dr. Sylvester Ezeani was not reachable as at press time, state secretary of PDP, Godwin Etta, issued a public statement denying all the accusations from the parties.
He turned around in the statement to accuse both of plotting to burn down INEC state and area offices in Calabar if INEC released results not in their favour. Etta said both parties were also plotting to cause mayhem in the state.
