The women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 has been rescheduled for July 2026.
The Confederations of African Football announced the new date on Thursday on its website, confirming the shift to 25 July – 16 August 2026.
There have been reports in recent months of potential postponement of the tournament set to be hosted by Morocco from 17 March – 3 April 2026.
A South African government official had offered the country’s readiness to replace Morocco as hosts, AFCON 2026 hosts, failed to honour their obligation.
The rumours of the tournament’s impending postponement heightened in recent weeks despite participating nations, including the Super Falcons of Nigeria, intensifying preparations for the tournament.
The continental football governing body stated that “unforeseen circumstances” led to the decision that has been agreed with partners and stakeholders.
“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026, to 25 July – 16 August 2026; to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances.”
“Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful.”
WAFCON 2026 is set to be the 14th edition of women’s flagship tournament in Africa.
The Super Falcons are the defending champions with a record 10 titles.
