In the area of cages,Gartech Equipments, an Indian company in partnership with its Nigerian counterpart, Animal Care Services Konsult,  presented the “GE Ultima Battery Cages” which fascinated most of the participants.
The “GE Royal Plus Cage” is a piece of Indian technology. A unit of the cage can accommodate 120 birds. It has a central cooling system which allows 100% ventilation for the birds.
The cage has the automated liquid drinking systems which are connected to the overhead tank. The liquid drinking system is attached to each tiers of the cage and supply water directly to the birds through the input pipe supply. The system has the Step Rall which has easy access to top tiers. This piece of technology also comes with motorised egg collector.
These cages come in accu-weigh, accu-flow or accu-level type of feeding system, either of which guarantees accurate feed dispensing with trough cleaning regulatory boot.
According to Engineer Tunde, “the aluminum feeder cannot rot and is long lasting. It is the latest brand of the H-frame battery cages in the market.”
At the Diversay Solution Limited, Dr Agboola Belgore, General Manager of the company,  explained to this reporter the unique product the company introduced to the industry called “Microphym” which many farmers have keen interest on.
It is a biological fly control product.  It works with some bacteria that naturally feed on flies and the lava of flies. The product contains the dry culture of that bacteria, which are applied on the manure and given some weeks for the bacteria to be able to germinate in the manure.
Agboola stressed that once the bacteria germinates in the manure, it consumes the lava of the flies, making sure the fly does not develop from egg. “It consumes the egg and lava making sure that those two do not develop into house fly,” he said.
Biophym also has an element added to it that kills the fly  instantly when it lands on the manure. “In a programme of about five to seven weeks, you can get rid of flies completely on your poultry farm,” Agboola stressed.
The product also has a secondary effect of controlling odour, because according to Dr Belgore, the odour comes from the action of the lava breaking down the manure. But when the lava is eliminated the manure dries up and you don’t get any odour from it. He said the company has done some trials in many farms in Nigeria and “we got fantastic results.”
