The five writers shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing are going to read and discuss their work at the 2018 Africa Writes Festival. 

Discussion will be chaired by Doreen Baingana, previously shortlisted for the Caine Prize in 2004 and 2005 for her stories ‘Hunger’ and ‘Tropical Fish’, respectively.

This year’s Caine Prize for African Writing shortlisted writers includes Nigeria’s Nonyelum Ekwempu, Olufunke Ogundimu, Wole Talabi, South Africa’s Stacy Hardy and Kenya’s Makena Onjerika.

Africa Writes festival is an annual celebration of contemporary literature from Africa and the diaspora organised by The Royal African Society. Launched in 2012, every year Africa Writes showcases established and emerging talent from the African continent and its diaspora. The festival features book launches, readings, author appearances, panel discussions, family workshops, and other activities. 

Previous headline speakers at the festival are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ngugi wa Thiong’o with son Mukoma wa Ngugi, Wole Soyinka, Ama Ata Aidoo, Ben Okri, Nawal El Saadawi and Alain Mabanckou.

The festival is taking place June 30 at the British Library in London.
