Calabar, by the World Bank, a technical team from Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Control Project (NEWMAP) has enlightened many residents on how to trap or delay water at dwelling compounds and other places to reduce the volume of water flowing into gully sites.
Coordinator for Cross River State NEWMAP, Mr. Fedelis Anukwa, stressed that the essence of the enlightenment was to ensure that the World Bank job is done perfectly.
The team also urged landlords and residents to build water harvesting structures (reservoirs) in their compounds so as  to reduce the volume of  water discharged or amount of rain water that flows from their compound into erosion prone areas.
Anukwa solicited for the cooperation of the six communities of Ikot Ishie for the successful completion of the programme.
Also speaking, Engr. Victor Essiene warned the people against continued extraction of sandy soil in the gully side for building purposes, stressing that such attitude could aggravate the erosion menace.
Mrs. Regina Ogbouka of the Monitoring /Evaluation Unit of the project urged the youths to claim ownership of the project and ensure that   materials/ machines that would be used in the execution of the project are properly secured.
