Cameroon tops Group A as Aboubakar hits fifth AFCON 2021 goal

African Cup of Nations hosts Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw by Cape Verde in their final group A match on Monday.

Despite the draw, Cameroon wins Group A with seven points, three more than runners up Burkina Faso. Cape Verde, also on four points, miss out on automatic qualification due to Burkina Faso’s better head-to-head record against the Blue Sharks despite both side finishing on same points.

Vincent Aboubakar continued his red-hot AFCON form with the opening goal for Cameroon, driving home a shot after Cape Verde failed to clear a free kick. The 29-year-old has now scord five goals in the competition, three more than his closest challengers.
The Cape Verdeans however equalized through Garry Rodrigues who excellently finished a pull back to restore parity.
Neither side could find the winner and Cameroon had to settle for a draw to dent their 100% record in the competition.
Cape Verde would have to wait for a third place spot in order to advance into the round of 16.
RESULTS
Cape Verde 1-1 Cameroon
Burkina Faso 1-1 Ethiopia
