Salifu who spoke with Sunday Trust at the CAN Secretariat in Abuja last Friday was reacting to the twin-car bombs that marred the October 1st Jubilee celebrations in Abuja in which several lives were lost and many others injured.
He said it was a shame that because of political differences some people would disgrace Nigeria in the midst of so many world leaders. “Our image is bad already, so they shouldn’t have waited to do it in the presence of over 50 foreign officials. It is just like a husband and wife quarrelling, when the wife sees visitors, she will take her pot of soup and pour it on the husband,” he said.
He added that Abuja was the symbol of unity for all Nigerians and it was wrong for anybody to have attacked it. “We are struggling to build a nation and this is not the time to fight no matter our differences. It is time for us to realize that this contraption called Nigeria is for all of us,” he said.
He said the blame game going on among politicians will not help foster unity, stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan did nothing wrong in exonerating MEND from the Abuja bombings, saying the president was in a privileged position to know those behind the devilish blasts.
