Oristejafor described the event as an avenue for churches in Nigeria to bond together in worship. Expressing optimism that the occasion would further unify churches across the nation, Oristejafor implored all religious leaders and churches to be a part of the fiesta. He said, “The AFNC will create a platform for churches across the nation to come together and worship God. It is incredible to see thousands of people from all backgrounds and denominations lifting up their hands and voices to worship God.”
Professor Jerry Gana, former minister of information and an ardent supporter of such forays has also endorsed the event and made a commitment to attend it.
The programme organised by Evangelist (Mrs.) Ify Ebosie will involve choirs from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria who would have scaled through and succeeded the various screening levels at the zones before qualifying to participate at the national stage. According to her, “This next edition has been broadened to accommodate more churches across Nigeria. Participating choirs have been divided into blocks where they would compete to qualify for the grand finale in April during the Easter celebrations at the Christian Centre, Abuja.
To add tonic to the event is renowned gospel artiste, Panam Percy Paul along with Nigeria’s master musicologist, Professor Laz Ekwueme both of whom will be judges of the competition.
While speaking on the competition cum talent hunt, Project Director, Tony Iromuanya informed that the competition will serve as a platform for participating choirs to sing in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. The organisers, she said, have created a central theme around which each group will perform and be judged on as well as a unique piece which the group has created. “They will also be judged for presentation, rendition and appearance,” she added.
Promising that the outing will be bigger and better than the last, Iromuanya also said the target was to make it of international standards. “We shall be moving from one region to the other in a bid to enhance participation and broaden the competition. It is our desire that this next edition will not only unify but will also become a reference point for all other such festivals in the country.”
