Rev. Cornelius Fawenu, the General Secretary of the chapter, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin that the practice had been politicised, leading to the appointment of people with religious bias.

As a panacea, he urged governors to appoint two special advisers on religious matters, with a view to balancing the Christian/Muslim factor and having an objective advice.

Fawenu said the appointment should not be strictly meant for politicians, but rather, credible religious leaders should be appointed.

“Where it is necessary to appoint special advisers on religious matters, let one be for the Christians and the other for the Muslims, while those to be appointed must not necessarily be politicians.

“Instead, mature religious leaders who are not sentimental, fanatical, but are patriotic statement who will offer objective advice to government be appointed,’’ he added.

Fawenu also advised politicians to jettison sectional leadership, noting that what the country needed to quell religious upheavals was national leadership.

He urged the Federal Government to be sincere and find lasting solutions to the Jos crises, adding that all the perpetrators should be prosecuted to deter others.

“Whoever wants to lead us must see every Nigerian as one, irrespective of religion, tribe or ethnic background. This will stop killings and wasting of human resources,’’ he added.  (NAN)
