This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a five day pre- retirement training programmed for retired officers in federal parastatals across the country put together by the Bureau of public service reforms (BPSR) held in Ilorin.
The contributory pension scheme provides for 18 years after retirement, with a possible 5 additional years which puts the maximum pensionable age at 83 years.
The communiqué decried the lowering of the financial benefit accruable to retired officers which is a currently below 25 percent of their last pay as against 50 percent expressed provision of the pension reform act.
They also called on the federal government to ameliorate the health challenges faced by retired officers by extending the medical programme of the National health insurance Scheme (NHIS) to retired officers particularly in the absence of institutional social securities.
The 2013 training programme was conducted for officers most of whom had retired from service for the period ranging from one to two years.
