Operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service yesterday stormed the Abdullahi Bayero Road, a hub in Kano known for sale of used cars, and seized seven luxury cars from the dealers.
One of the car business operators, Alhaji Abba Hussaini Sadauki, said they woke up to the realization that the Customs Service had seized seven of their cars displayed for sale.
He said the incident generated a lot of tension among operators, forcing them into a peaceful protest.
“We went to the Custom’s command and we delegated some of our members to go in and discuss with the authorities; and that was when men of the service started shooting into the air to scare us away,” Sadauki said.
Attempt to reach the Kano Command of the Customs Service to comment on the seizure failed as the Public Relations Officer, Isa Danbaba, was not taking his calls.
