The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has advised Nigerians to change their perspective and re-orientation so that they can place more emphasis in the care of the elderly in their homes.
The clergyman noted that caring for the elderly is more rewarding than spending millions to stage so-called befitting burial for the dead.
Ezeokafor who made the call at a thanksgiving mass to commemorate the birthday celebration of a nonagenarian, Veronica Okeke, in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, described as honourable the act of caring for the elderly.
He observed with dismay the tendency for children in contemporary societies to treat their parents and elderly relations with disdain when they start showing aging signs.
