Carpenter dies after falling from building roof in Lagos

A 25-year-old carpenter identified simply as Sunday, has reportedly died after falling from the top of a roof while working at a construction site in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The deceased was said to have been contracted for the job by a senior carpenter, who is also working at the site.

City & Crime learnt that the deceased fell off while trying to remove lintel from the roof of the building which was still under construction.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said the event was reported at the Ikoyi Police Station by the resident engineer in charge of the construction site along with the air-condition installer working at the site.

According to him, “The deceased was said to have fallen from a storey building while removing the lintel woods. He was immediately rushed to a hospital at Falomo but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

Our correspondent reports that his body has been taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
