A Magistrate’s Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced one Abdul Ado, a 23-year-old carpenter, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing his neighbour’s cellphone.

Magistrate Irene Pati sentenced Ado after he pleaded guilty to charges of trespass and theft.

Pati, in her judgment, however, gave the convict an option of a fine: N30,000 or six months in prison for trespass, and N60,000 or one year for theft.

She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N158,000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Oct. 3 at the “A” Division police station by Chinonzo Isaac, the complainant.

Gokwat said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s room while he was sleeping, stole his cellphone worth N158,000, and sold it for N25,000. (NAN)
