The newly installed Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, has called on the clergies to focus on building families for a better society.
Okoye made the appeal shortly after being installed as the second Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral Nnewi on Thursday.
According to him, part of his episcopal role was to help the families and the poor to build a better society.
“We must help the parents to build families; if we get the families right, we will get the society right. We will get good priests and good children,” he stated.
He urged the priests not to mislead the people by their preaching in churches.
Okoye urged the priests to always render community services by helping others to grow.
According to him, if the families get it right, there would not be anything like drug addiction, kidnapping and other vices.
He specifically commended the senator representing Anambra south senator Ifeanyi Ubah, for his commitment towards the building of the cathedral for the diocese.
“I want specially commend senator Ifeanyi Uba for his immense sacrifice and commitments in building the cathedral to the level it is now. Ubah has done wonderfully well.
“We will always assist him. I called on other Nnewi billionaires to come and help in building the cathedral,” he said.
Speaking to journalists after the installation, senator Ubah said that his commitment to church started when he was a boy.
According to him, it gives him joy to give to the service of God and humanity because He blesses him the more when he gives out.
He said he is a Catholic and will remain catholic because he was raised up in Catholic values and norms which has not disappointed him.
