“The Catholic Liturgical and Gospel Music Awards (CLGMA) 2019, has said it would use this year’s music event to raise funds, especially for prison inmates and other needy in the society.

The Founder and Executive Producer of the organisation, Mr. Obiorah Anthony, at a news conference, said, the group would partner with the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) for a medical outreach, donate food stuffs and conduct musical contest, where participants will be tested and rewarded on the spot.

He said, “We will use this medium to sensitize the public, on the need to also carter for inmates, hoping that by doing so, multi-national companies, local companies, stakeholders and even the religious groups in Nigeria will do the same or even more.”

Anthony said, the award is aimed at creating greater awareness, increasing the appreciation of the artistic efforts and achievements for songwriters, performers and musicians originating from the Catholic Church.

He added that, “The awards will celebrate trailblazers for setting above and beyond standards in which up and coming music ministers can follow.”

There will be three competitive rounds and 20 categories of the award including gospel artist of the year, gospel song of the year, song writer of the year, liturgical music composer of the year and indigenous recording of the year among others.

Competitors must baptised Catholics for the July 2019 gala night after submissions from November 2018 to February 2019.  Entrants must have actively performed within the eligibility period and that their works must have been released before 28 February 2019.
