Clashes between farmers and nomadic cattle herders in Niger have left 18 people dead.  Officials say the violence broke out near the village of Bangui, on Niger’s southern border with Nigeria, when livestock belonging to ethnic Fulani herders damaged crops in a farmer’s field.  At least 20 people were hurt.
“The nomadic herders fought with a farmer, whom they wounded. He was taken to the medical centre and everything started from there,” Oumarou Mohamane, Bangui’s mayor said, the Reuters news agency reports.
