The Central Bank of Nigeria has pledged its support for Nigeria’s preparations to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).

This was disclosed by Rakiya Opemi Yusuf, Director of the CBN Payment System Supervision Department, as she reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to collaboration during a courtesy visit by Lami Ahmed and the leadership of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) in Abuja.

Dr. Yusuf appreciated the surprise award and her appointment as an AACT Ambassador, pledging commitment to Nigeria’s bid to host the All Africa Challenge Trophy.

“I am honoured by this recognition and accept the ambassadorial role with responsibility to support Nigeria’s dream of hosting the continental championship successfully,” she said.

She reaffirmed the Central Bank of Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate, noting efforts would be made to facilitate LGAN’s planned courtesy visit to the CBN Governor.

“The Governor is a strong advocate of collaboration, reflected in strides in monetary policy, ease of doing business and payment systems within two years,” Yusuf added.

Earlier, LGAN President, Dr. Lami Ahmed, said the AACT remained a platform for promoting women’s golf and strengthening Nigeria’s sporting profile across Africa.

Ahmed noted that the 2026 edition, scheduled for Nov. 2 to Nov. 7 in Abuja, would attract participation from over 30 African countries.

“The tournament will boost tourism, inspire youth participation and enhance global recognition of Nigeria’s golf ecosystem,” she said.

She said Yusuf’s recognition was based on her consistent support for women’s development and contributions to ladies’ golf activities.

“We honour you as an AACT Ambassador because you believe in the Nigerian project and can help us tell our story to the world,” Ahmed said.

She urged Yusuf to partner with LGAN in mobilising support to ensure Nigeria hosts a successful AACT and National Open Championship in November 2026.
