The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday organised an enlightenment campaign for traders in Gombe State on the newly introduced naira notes, e-naira and other activities of the bank.

During the sensitisation programme, tagged ‘Market Storm’ held at the Gombe Main Market, the apex bank also urged the traders and other residents of the state to ensure they returned old N200, N500 and N1000 naira notes before the deadline of January 31.

Speaking at the event, CBN Controller in Gombe, Shehu Alhaji Goringo, said the present naira notes have been in use for about 20 years, explaining that the best practice is redesigning of the notes every five to eight years.

Similarly, the CBN sensitised traders in Minna markets, the Niger State capital, on the security features of the redesigned N200, N500 and N1, 000 notes.

The Minna Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Ademola Saheed Mohammed said the people at the grassroots and traders needed to be enlightened on the security features to avoid falling victims of counterfeit notes.

In their separate contributions, traders, especially those going to rural areas to buy goods said most rural farmers were not educated on e-transaction, saying that many rural farmers would lose money if central bank insisted on the January 31st deadline
