Cef, Rubunu, others thrill at German soiree
It was an evening of music, dance and food when penultimate Thursday ended with a soiree in honour of the visiting German Secretary of State, Mr. Walter Lindner, in Abuja.
Abuja-based music sensation, Cef and songstress, Ms. Rubunu along with the band of guitarists, trumpeter, saxophonist, keyboardist and percussionists dished out music after music to the delight of the guests.
Ms. Rubunu entertained with some of her songs including ‘Matrix,’ ‘Woman’ and ‘Perfect World,’ while Cef, thrilled with the likes of ‘Power,’ ‘Freedom,’ ‘Piggy Bank,’ and the all-time favourite, ‘Angeli.’ The reggae, soul and Afro blend of the songs provided the right tempo, inviting dance, a call guests gladly responded to.
For Lindner, a career diplomat who is also a musician and lover of the creative industry, it was a pleasure to be a part of the gathering.
Going down memory lane on his relationship with the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Bernhard Stephan Schlagheck, Lindner said their friendship have spanned 32 years from when they started their careers in the foreign service.
Throwing a jab at the envoy, he said, “I can tell you something. Bernhard looked exactly the same way he looks now. Same outfit and he is an artist as well.”
At the event graced by friends of Germany and the diplomatic corps, among others, Schlagheck, was appreciative to guests for honouring the invitation, stating the presence of the German Secretary of State as the reason for requesting their company and the opportunity to listen to and witness some wonderful and magnificent music.
He explained that Lindner was visiting to meet with an energy working group under the umbrella of the Nigerian-German Bi-National Commission.
Adding that, the visit, was not only about energy matters but that given the upcoming elections, it also involved political consultation with the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Peace Committee for the 2019 elections.
Schlagheck, also said, that apart, from Lindner’s achievements in the diplomatic circuit, he was also an accomplished musician very interested in African cultural music.
He said, “Sometimes, I am wondering, what is his primary, secondary profession! I am not talking about passion here, I am absolutely clear that since he is such a wonderful colleague and had served abroad, we thought it wise to bring together a mix of colourful people from fashion, society, Abuja cultural scene, politics, with some diplomats.”
While acknowledging his position as the Deputy Foreign Minister of Germany, Lindner said, he never thought the German government would bring him up to the position, which showed that Germany has changed. Adding that, although he earned money through diplomacy, in his heart, he was a musician.
