25 young Nigerians have graduated from the Segesse College of Traditional Carpentry (SCTC) after completing their basic training in carpentry skills.
The graduation ceremony, held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Filin Dabo community in Dei-Dei, Abuja, brought together community leaders, government representatives, and other stakeholders.
SCTC was established by Mr. Moses Amiebenomo, popularly known as “Celebrity Carpenter,” to provide vocational training opportunities for young people. Speaking at the event, Amiebenomo commended the graduands for their perseverance and encouraged them to make good use of the skills acquired.
“The college was created to give Nigerian youths a second chance,” he said, noting that the institution now attracts students from across Africa.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, represented by a director in the ministry, said the government is committed to partnering with skills acquisition centres such as SCTC to help tackle unemployment.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), represented by Chief Superintendent of Narcotics Augustine Nduka, advised the graduands and other youths to stay away from drug abuse. He called for stronger partnerships between employers and agencies to support rehabilitation and reintegration of affected youths.
Traditional leaders from the Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba communities in Dei-Dei also commended the initiative, describing it as a valuable contribution to youth development in the area.
Graduates received certificates at the ceremony and expressed gratitude for the opportunity, pledging to use their new skills productively.
