The Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) has called on Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to adopt inclusive strategies that will accommodate marginalized groups in the fight against corruption in the state.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kano, the Director of the centre, Comrade Kabiru Sa’idu Dakata, said the commission should give room for the support and participation of the youth, women and people with disability in the crusade.
“While we appreciate the strides made by the commission to position itself to sustain the fight against corruption in the state, we believe there is room for improvement, particularly in the area of adopting more inclusive strategies that will accommodate the support and participation of the marginalized groups, especially youth, women and people with disability,” comrade Dakata said.
The director also called on the Kano state government to improve the welfare of the commission’s personnel in order to curtail the possible staff turnover that might affect the activities of the commission.
Dakata further advocated for more enlightenment campaign on how the general public could report cases of corruption to the commission.
He commended Kano state government for establishing the commission in 2005.
The director applauded Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for making the commission more functional by appointing competent persons, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado as chairman.
He said the centre in collaboration with Youth Alive Foundation (YAF) and with support from DFID, is currently implementing a project aimed at increasing youth participation in the fight against corruption (Y-PAC)programme in the state.
