The Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training (AKCDRT), has launched Kano State civil society organizations coalition on maternal and child health as part of series of activities funded by MacArthur Foundation.

The coalition, Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale (PACFaH Scale), is a 5-year project that would conduct research on health policy and budget.

The essence of the project is to identify the most significant policy targets, training NGOs and building their capacity for evidence based advocacy engagement, developing policies.

In his address, the Kano State commissioner of health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, represented by the Director Public Health, Malam Tijjani Hussain, said the project was timely.

He said the state ministry of health has placed premium on maternal and child health, especially on child birth spacing.

“Kano state government has earmarked over N300m for routine immunization in the 2018 budget which was previously co-funded by Melinda and Gate Foundation as well as Dangote Foundation,” the commissioner has said.

He promised that Kano state government would involve the coalition in all budgeting process of the ministry to ensure accountability and transparency.

Earlier, Dr Rayyanu Garba of AKCDRT said the major areas of coverage of the project included child spacing, routine immunization, childhood killer diseases as well as bringing primary healthcare under one roof.
