The six board members who were led by its chairman Zanna Laminu was on a supervisory mission to inspect the level and quality of contract awarded on the site since August 2008.

Laminu had however directed the contractor handling the extension of intake canal, Kidaji and Sons Ltd to as a matter of urgency use pipes which were specified in the contract agreement so that the canal construction could be completed.  The project manager of the company earlier explained that the discharge point at the pump house was 1.7m above the lake bed, noting that after the study and design the pump house was now 7m below the lake bed with a slope of two percent.

He explained that this had prompted an excavation of 7m and the depth coupled with the loss nature of the soil resulted in the collapse of the trench, saying that the soil been so loss could not sustain the weight of the excavator for sloping.

The nature of the soil, he said was, making it difficult to excavate the material from the reservoir and delayed the progress of work but assuring that they would deliver the project in three weeks.
