But Pastor Tunde Bakare said: “Mr. Chairman, yesterday you said something at the inauguration of the conference and I did not understand. Today again, you said it. I think you should pray in the way all of us understand because if I stand up and say, ‘Praise the Lord!’ somebody we will turn this place into a church service.”
The secretary of the confab, while responding said that the comments have been noted.
When the assistant secretary in charge of administration and finance Prof. Tanimu Yakubu announced that they are making provision for a mosque for Muslim delegates, the statement elicited controversy.
Some Christian delegates protested, saying they also needed a praying space particularly as they are now observing their Lent fasting.
Mike Ozokhome from Edo State said a chapel was needed for Christians to pray and break their fast, “especially considering that we are in Lenten season.”
Bakare said there is need to be sensitive to other peoples’ needs. “For example the secretary said there is room for those who want to say their five times prayer, we accept that its part of our culture. Room should be made for it but they should have thought of Christians also,” he said.
