The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Kuje Area Council in the upcoming February 21 council election, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, has donated relief materials to victims of the recent farmers-herders clash in the Gudun-Karya community.
During a visit to the community on Monday, Shekwolo handed over a variety of essential items to both the Fulani and community leaders.
The donated relief materials included bags of rice and beans, mattresses, sleeping mats, rubber buckets, vegetable oil, palm oil, cartons of seasoning cubes, and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Expressing his condolences, Shekwolo stated that he received news of the incident with profound shock and sadness.
He lamented the loss of lives and property, stressing that both herders and farmers must find common ground to coexist peacefully.
“We must strive to live in peace with one another, regardless of our ethnic, tribal, or religious differences,” Shekwolo said. “Farmers and herders should see themselves as part of one community.”
He condemned the violence, describing the reciprocal attacks and the burning of houses as “uncalled for.”
He further urged traditional and community leaders in the area to foster a culture of tolerance among their people.
Shekwolo offered prayers for the souls of those who died in the conflict and commended security operatives for their swift response in restoring order to the community.
In response, the community and the Fulani leaders thanked the chairmanship candidate for his timely intervention and prayed for his success in the upcoming polls.
The donation follows a violent clash in Gudun-Karya last Wednesday, which left four people dead and several houses razed. The crisis reportedly broke out after a misunderstanding between a farmer and a herder regarding the alleged destruction of a cassava farm by cattle.
