The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has urged parents and guardians to channel their concerns through the university’s management for prompt resolution, rather than taking to social media.
Prof. Gwarzo made the call on Thursday at the institution’s first convocation dinner organised for the Class of 2025 at its main campus.
According to him, the university maintains an open-door policy that allows issues affecting students and parents to be addressed constructively and in the best interest of all parties.
“We encourage parents and guardians to bring their concerns directly to the management. This will enable us to resolve issues promptly instead of resorting to social media,” he said.
He also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to affordable education, noting that MAAUN has retained its status as Nigeria’s cheapest private university, even as it is ranked the second-best private university in the country.
“Our affordable tuition policy reflects our desire to expand access to quality education while maintaining high academic standards, without placing unnecessary financial pressure on parents and guardians,” Gwarzo added.
Earlier, the President of the university, Prof. Mohammad Israr, described the convocation dinner as a historic milestone, saying it marked the successful completion of studies by the institution’s first set of graduating students.
The Vice President (Administration), Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, congratulated the graduands and thanked parents, staff and guests for their support, which he said contributed to the success recorded by the university.
In a goodwill message, the Director of the European Centre for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Education, Prof. Mahamouda Salouhou, commended Prof. Gwarzo for investing in education, noting that the initiative would inspire more stakeholders to support educational development.
Also speaking, Prof. Hakeem Ibukunle of Morgan State University, Baltimore, United States, congratulated the graduands and their parents, while praising the founder’s efforts in advancing education in Nigeria and beyond.
Some parents, including Alhaji Sa’idu Bello and Abdulrahaman Sulaiman Bawa Zaria, expressed appreciation to the university’s management for mentoring the students and guiding them through their academic journey.
The convocation dinner brought together students, parents, members of the management and invited guests, and featured musical performances and spoken-word presentations to mark the occasion.
