The operations by the Discos are very much an abracadabra – the more you try to understand, the more you get confused! It seems they now have a license to operate at will. It looks like they now fully operate without any regulator monitoring their operations. As a result they are not at a loss for they can make it whether they supply power or not. The fixed charge which they now bill across board is an assurance that they always have something to fall back on whether they supply power or not. This compulsory charge which has now been shamelessly extended to even those on estimated billing has made the whole system repressive for the consumers. And their self-approved tariff is worse than fuel scarcity scourge, because with fuel you pay for the product no matter the cost as opposed to the Discos charges where you pay for non-existent supply. And this, to say the least is draconian. Some of the Discos , like KEDCO have started billing stalls with only 3 light bulbs as much as 350kwh on estimation. Where and how on earth can anyone get 350kwh from only 3 light bulbs in a month – even with steady supply which is not the case now with daily supply hardly exceeding 8 hours! My monthly energy consumption calculation based on steady supply stood at 129.6kwh ! 350kwh by KEDCO is really a crazy wishful estimate. There should be some effective watchdogs otherwise these Discos will soon start to charge just anything in their inordinate desire to recover their ‘invested’ fortune within the shortest possible period! They seem to have the license to further impoverish the already economically distressed customers. We are therefore, fervently appealing to PMB not to leave us in the fists of these Discos.
