It came after President Goodluck Jonathan assented to the bill last week.
CHEERS executive director Ajia Ogugua-Agagbo said the new law will aid prevention of HIV/AIDS and its related diseases.
It would also “serve as a source of hope for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, especially in areas of discrimination, victimization and access to health care services, education and other forms of social welfare,” he said.
Ogugua-Agagbo added that that with the new law, “getting to zero new infections, zero HIV related deaths and zero discrimination is quite feasible.”
