A 31-year-old chef, Innocent Etim, was yesterday arraigned in an FCT High Court, Nyanya, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
Etim was docked on a two-count charge, bordering on rape, but denied committing the offence.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Samuel Offiah, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 13, 2018, at Suaka area of Abuja.
He told the court that the defendant forcefully had carnal knowledge of the 13-year-old girl.
Offiah said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 1 and 5 (1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015
Mr Dickson Umoru, Etim’s counsel applied for his bail.
The judge, Justice Peter Kekemeke, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N20 million and a surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb. 21 for commencement of trial. (NAN)
