Harmony Chidi scored a first half hattrick to lead Nigeria’s Under-17 female national team the Flamingos to a crushing 5-0 win over Guinea in Abidjan.
The first leg of the second round 2026 under-17 women’s world Cup was an easy stroll for Akeem Busari’s girls who scored four times in the first half of the encounter.
The build-up of the match was dominated by the Flamingos poor camp conditions, but the contingent rose above the issue to deliver a five-star performance, with Kemi Adegbuyi and Mary Dustan also on the scoresheet.
Chidi scored in the first minute of the match for one of the fastest ever goals in the qualifier series, before a lobbed effort in the box made it two-nil for Nigeria on 13 minutes.
Adegbuyi of FC Robo Queens produced a flying header to extend the lead at the back post, before Bayelsa Queens FC’s Chidi stroked home for a four-goal lead at the break, completing a hattrick that increased her goals tally to 25 goals in 17 appearances.
Dustan added more gloss in the 56th minute and there were no further goals as Nigeria all but sealed passage to the final qualifying round.
However, they will honour the second leg of this encounter by hosting Guinea at the Ikenne stadium in Remo, Ogun State, on May 30.
