The Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale (PACFaH@Scale) has mobilised professional bodies in the health sector to advocate for increased funding for its four thematic areas with special consideration for child spacing.
In a meeting held at Mumbayya House yesterday, the Project Director in Kano, Professor Haruna Wakili, said the essence of the meeting was to form an advocacy group of professionals that would speak with one voice as critical stakeholders in the health sector.
On his part, the Advocacy and strategic officer of the project, Dr Rayyan Garba, said statistical data available has shown that in all the four issue areas which included routine immunization, childhood killer diseases, child spacing and bringing Primary Health Care under one roof, Kano state has performed poorly compared to other states of the federation.
"For instance, in Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) Kano state was able to record only 0.5% of its 17% target in 2018. That’s far below average," he said
At the end of the meeting, the group agreed to work together to achieve three objectives which included; To advocate for increased funding for for the four issue areas; To advocate for timely release of the funds and To ensure effective utilization of the funds.
Some of the associations that attended the meeting were National Medical Association; Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; Society of Gynecologist of Nigeria; Nutrition Society if Nigeria; National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives; Association of Publichealth Physicians of Nigeria and Association of Community Health Practioners of Nigeria.
