A 30-year-old suspected child trafficker, Blessing Chukwunonso, has told the police how her husband bought the two children that were found in her possession in Jos, Plateau State, for N70,000 each.

Chukwunonso was arrested on October 31, 2019, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ojo police station, Abdullah Malam, based on an intelligence report.

The police said the suspect was first sighted at the Alaba International Market with two children.

The police said that the information received was that the suspect, who initially claimed to be the mother of the two children, was behaving in a suspicious manner.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said that detectives saw the suspect at the market with the two children, namely Joshua James, 6, and Samuel Gbawune, 3, while attempting to board a vehicle to Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Upon questioning, she claimed that the boys were adopted by her husband, Happiness Chukwunoso, 40, from a Motherless Babies home in Jos, Plateau State, and brought to Lagos, and she was taking them to Onitsha to meet her husband,” Elkana added.

He added that investigation by the detectives led to the arrest of the suspect’s husband.

According to the police spokesman, “On November 1, 2019, at about 7am, the said husband was also arrested by the police. He confessed to have bought the kids at the sum of N140,000 from one Mama Oyoo in Jos. The kids were recovered. Efforts are on to identify their parents and reunite them. The command calls on motor park operators, unions and well-meaning Nigerians to keep an eye on passengers with kids, appearing in suspicious manner.”
