Children gather for ‘Face of Hope’ pageant

Children from across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and environs celebrated the second edition of the Face of Hope beauty pageant last Sunday at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja.
The event, which held under the auspices of the Face of Hope foundation, celebrated kids, humanity, life, beauty, intelligence, poise and elegance as children between the ages of five and 10 contested to be the king or queen of the ‘Face of Hope.’
Founder of the foundation and CEO of Grazee Stitches, the organisation was poised to take this year’s edition of the pageant to the next level as it drives to curb Western influences on Nigerian children who know little or nothing about the rich and diverse cultures of Nigeria.
Ojo informed that the children went to a camping period where they were taught proper ethics and behavior: “They were encouraged to promote norms, values, food, as well as fashion and modelling tips.”
She explained that: “The pageant aims to inculcate in the younger generation the act of giving, most especially helping the less-privileged and also to promote Nigeria’s beautiful culture, behaviour, cuisine, language and lifestyle to the wider world in a very entertaining environment.”
The contestants displayed evening, casual and traditional outfits with Kofoworola Lawal (queen), Damian Alabunmi (king), Iyefu Idris (first runner-up, female) and Michael Pius (first runner-up, male) emerging as the winners.
An elated 10-year-old Lawal, who said she enjoyed the catwalk lessons most, noted that: “I am happy that we visited the less-privileged children and I will give my mummy my money so that she can open her shop with it.”
