The Executive Director, the Learning Place, Lagos, Mrs Bolanle Adewole, made the call at a 2-day parents’ forum on early intervention for children with special needs organised by Zamarr Institute in Abuja.
Mrs. Adewole said parents should be sensitive to the needs of their autistic children and help them behave like normal people.
She urged government and proprietors of private schools to always create conducive environment to enable such children feel comfortable at schools, saying that this will improve their academic performance.
On her part, Executive Director, Zamarr Institute, Mrs Ronke Katagum, said parents were now conscious of how to improve the lives of their children with special needs.
Katagum said,“We should teach the children how to behave like us. It is genetic but parents have active roles to play in the lives of their children.”
