The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has donated a cultural centre, named “Chinese Corner” to the Government Secondary School Wuse, Zone 3, Abuja.
Speaking during the commissioning of the centre and award ceremony for the 2024 Chinese Ambassador Drawing Competition, on Tuesday, the Ambassador of China to Nigeria, Ambassador Yu Dunhai, said the Chinese corner was equipped with many Chinese elements, adding that the embassy had been getting feedback on the impact of its centres on students.
“The principal has said that the corner is contributing to cross-cultural communication,” he said.
Dr Muhammed Sani Ladan, the Director/Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board, said the Chinese corners serve as a resource centre for Chinese education and hubs for cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.
“You may need to know that this is the 12th Chinese Corner with the FCT-SEB schools and the 13th nationwide.
“The Corners serve as a resource Center for Chinese education and also serve as hubs for cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.
“The collaboration between the Chinese Embassy and the FCT Secondary Education Board has been that of mutual benefit to both countries. While the Chinese gain cultural exposure to the young generation of Nigerians, the Nigerian students and staff, on the other hand, gain capacity building, scholarship and educational support,” he said.
On her part, Mrs Josephine Ogwu, Principal/Director GSS Wuse, Abuja, said the establishment of the cultural centre was a testament to China’s friendly relationship with Nigeria, adding: “This initiative also demonstrates China’s commitment to cultural exchange, highlighting the vital role of culture and education in promoting strong and effective relationships between nations.’’
