The new China cultural chancellor to Nigeria Mr. Yan Xiangpong said this yesterday during a familiarization visit to the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) in company of his predecessor, Mr Jin Hongyue.
He said the embassy had over the years played an important role in the promotion of arts and culture both in China and Nigeria.
“We want you to draw up a proposal to tell us the areas you want us to further trained your staff. We have lined up our own training programmes, seminars, workshop in various areas meant to adequately equipped cultural officers,’’ he said.
Xiangpong stressed the need for both countries to work harder and cooperate to ensure that arts and culture takes it plan in nation-building.
He said that the partnership would make arts and culture more visible and bring mutual benefit for both countries.
Earlier, the Executive Director of NCAC, Mr Mwajim Maidugu, informed the new cultural attache of the council’s programmes and promised to cooperate with the embassy to better reposition the sector.
He said the council was charged with the responsibility of coordinating, developing and promoting the living arts and culture of Nigeria at both the national and international forums.
Maidugu said that the vision of the council was to use culture as a cornerstone to build a solid nation where the citizens shall see its cultural diversity as a source of strength.
He said that the council has zonal offices for effective grassroots impact towards tapping and harnessing the diverse and rich cultural industries for rural economic growth.
