In 2017, President Xi Jinping stated China’s principled stand on economic globalization and expressed China’s resolve to support economic globalization to the international community on several major international occasions such as the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and G20 Summit.
To hold China International Import Expo is our action to implement China’s stand to support economic globalization as expressed by President Xi Jinping. Therefore, Chinese government has decided that the first China International Import Expo will be held in Shanghai from November 5, 2018 to November 10, 2018.
It’s rarely the case in the world that a developing country like China chooses to hold an import-themed expo.
The expo will not only provide new opportunities for countries around the world to expand export to China, but also create a platform for countries to engage in international trade and share business opportunities with each other. It represents China’s sincere wish to open its market to the world, and shows China’s active role as a major power in undertaking the responsibility of pushing forward economic globalization.
China welcomes countries all over the world, especially the African countries, to board the train of China’s development either for a fast ride or for a free ride and products and services with strengths, characteristics and competitiveness are welcomed to enter China’s vast market with a population of 1.3 billion.
In the next five years, China is expected to import products and services worth more than ten trillion dollars. It is our sincere hope to, through holding of China International Import Expo, keep promoting trade liberalization and facilitation, make concerted efforts to make the cake of global trade bigger, give play to the leading role of economic and trade cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, make good use of the driving role of international trade on the growth of world economy, and contribute to a more vigorous, inclusive and sustainable economic globalization.
Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa with vast lands and abundant natural resources. It is also the most populous country on the continent whose almost 200 million people are exploring their potential vigorously. As big developing countries, China and Nigeria have complementary advantages in many sections, which offer great potential for cooperation.
For years, Nigeria has continued to be China’s third largest trading partner in Africa. It is believed that this upcoming China International Import Expo will breathe new life into the bilateral trade cooperation and create the biggest opportunity to enhance the bilateral trade position into new level. It is also believed that this upcoming China International Import Expo will give Nigerian people and business men a great platform to show what Nigeria looks like to China and rest of the world.
National Trade Investment Comprehensive Exhibition and Corporate Business Exhibition will be held at the first China International Import Expo. On the Country Pavilion for Trade and Investment, relevant countries will demonstrate their development in trade investment, including goods trade, service trade, industrial conditions, investment and tourism.
It is only for demonstration rather than for making a deal. The Enterprise Business Exhibition consists of goods trade exhibition area and service trade exhibition area, of which the former includes intelligent and high-end equipment, consumer electronics, household appliances, clothing, consumer goods, automobiles, food and farm products, medical apparatus and instruments, medicine and health care, and the latter includes emerging technologies, service outsourcing, innovative design, culture, education, and tourism services, etc. Through this platform, countries can sell their goods to China or other countries.
Countries all over the world, particularly the African countries, are sincerely welcomed by China to take part in the first China International Import Expo. China will offer convenience to participating countries and their merchants, and provide necessary assistance and support for developing countries, especially the least developed countries. China will organize on-the-spot negotiations and purchase for domestic and foreign purchasers through multiple channels and arrange targeted matchmaking fairs according to the characteristics of the exhibits and China’s domestic consumption demands. China will also build a “one-stop” transaction platform to offer online and offline services, and continue to provide online exhibition and transaction services between expos.
Rather than any ordinary exhibition, China International Import Expo is an open platform for international cooperation built by China for countries all over the world to display their development achievements and carry out international trade, as well as a global public good provided by China for countries around the world to discuss major issues concerning international trade and world economy and improve global economic governance.
It is been well said that China has a large middle class and will become the world’s biggest consumer market in a few years. If China increases imports from other countries, it will help many nations share in China’s rapid growth. It would help increase their economic growth, create jobs and also balance trade between the nations. When Chinese companies go overseas, whether for investment or trade, they will not only take Chinese equipment and products but also find things in the destination countries that Chinese consumers might need. So it will be beneficial for both sides and eventually boost world trade. As a result, China International Import Expo is our first step.
China would like to work with countries all over the world and international organizations to build China International Import Expo into a first-class expo in the world, open new channels for international trade and cooperation, facilitate the interconnected growth of global trade and world economy, and achieve mutual benefit and common prosperity.
