President Xi Jinping of China has assured of China’s commitment to opening up and would never close its doors to the outside world.
Speaking at a banquet in Seattle at the start of his visit to the United States late Tuesday, Xi said China would protect foreign investor’s legitimate rights and interests, and work to create an open and transparent legal and policy environment, an efficient administrative environment and a level playing field.
Xi Jinping said China and the US should continue developing a “new model of major-country relations”. He put forward a four-point proposal, saying the two countries should read each other’s strategic intentions correctly, move ahead with win-win cooperation, manage their differences properly and effectively to seek more common ground, and boost people-to-people exchanges.
The president also said China’s ‘opening up’ had changed lives of the Chinese. But he added that there is still much to do, with 200 million people still living below the poverty line.
