Clement Chinaka emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 IBB Lady Captain’s Cup following a gripping contest that concluded on Sunday at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

The highly anticipated tournament, which teed off last Wednesday, attracted top amateur golfers and wrapped up in a grand fashion with Chinaka clinching the top prize after a tight countback finish.

Playing off handicap 16, Chinaka carded an 85 gross and 69 net, narrowly edging out A. Chigbo, who posted the same score but fell short on countback.

An elated Chinaka described the win as a moment of pure joy and praised the tournament’s organization and atmosphere.

“I feel very great that I was able to achieve this and winning this very well-organised tournament, put together by our amiable lady captain and her team—the first-of-its-kind in this club—is amazing!”

“The atmosphere was very conducive and I had a good flight too, even though I didn’t play too well at the front nine, but at the back nine, I decided to up my game. It is indeed a thing of joy for me and my teeming supporters that I have won this tournament and I am sure everyone is happy,” he said.

In the men’s handicap/index (0.5 – 15.7) category, Chigbo settled for the runner-up net position, while S.M. Bello (handicap 11) took the second runner-up spot with 81 gross and 70 net.

In the women’s category (handicap 0.5 – 15.7), S. Choi (handicap 17) returned 90 gross and 73 net to win best net. O. Abangwu and H. Adebayo finished as runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

S.O. Sanya (handicap 8) claimed the men’s best gross title with a 79 gross, followed by T. Danbala and B. Ashebu as runner-up and second runner-up.

On the women’s side, Grace Agbo (handicap 6) took home the best gross prize with an 82, while Faridah Wada and M. Atta-Bala secured the runner-up and second runner-up slots.

Meanwhile, former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan expressed heartfelt admiration for the outgoing Lady Captain, Dame Julie Donli, OON commending her leadership, dedication, and the successful tournament that crowned her tenure.

“I sincerely congratulate my dear friend and sister, Lady Captain Dame Julie Donli, OON, and the entire members of her team for a successful tournament to mark the end of her tenure,” Jonathan said.

“As you end your successful tenure as the Lady Captain of this glorious team, I sincerely wish you more success in your new endeavour.  Keep it on. Don’t go and relax. Continue playing, and continue to make us proud—we the women of Nigeria.”
