An appeal has been made for women to be given fair and deserving opportunities to develop and grow their capacities.
The call was made at the ‘Women in Culture’ event at the China Cultural Center in Abuja on Thursday which included an art exhibition and fashion show in commemoration of the International Women’s Day.
The event was organized in partnership with Legend Gold fashion brand and the Female Artist Association of Nigeria (FEAAN).
Speaking during the event, the Director of the China Cultural Center Mr. Lee Xuda, reassured women on the important role they have to play across all spheres.
“On behalf of the Chinese embassy, I want to express my warm congratulations to all the women on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. In China, there’s a saying that women hold up half the sky so you can fully fathom the important role women play and we felt it important to organize such occasion to honour women.”
He also expressed his hopes of seeing efforts made in appreciating both Nigerian and Chinese cultures.
Also speaking during the event, the president of FEAAN, Chinze Ojobo also urged for women not to be sidelined to the household and be allowed to exercise their rights without discrimination.
